Start-Up 101 Workshop focused on Investment and Banking
On Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Point Positive Coordinator, Melinda Little, led a workshop at Clarkson University with Jamey Hoose, Director of the Shipley Center. The workshop is part of a Start-Up 101 Workshop Series focused on investment and financing.
Jamey and Melinda discussed various funding sources available to start-up companies, including angel investment, venture capital, and grants. Additionally, this discussion differentiated between "diluting" and "non-diluting" funding sources and provided an overview of some of the most frequently used financing tools for start-ups; SAFE agreements and convertible debt. The discussion also included information on the soft skills necessary when approaching and engaging with potential investors and what types of questions are likely to come up during these conversations.
